CyHi The Prynce – Black Hystori Project

Posted on March 11, 2014

I’m aware that Black History Month has passed, and that’s when a lot of people tend to only focus on Black History, but as someone once said that many Black people have reverberated, “I make Black History all year, I don’t need a month” (or something along those lines). CyHi The Prynce has been looked at as the pauper of G.O.O.D Music for quite some time because he’s the only rapper on the label who doesn’t have an album out – just a bunch of mixtapes. Where he does make quality mixtapes like Royal Flush 1 & 2, and, The Ivy League Club, he was gone for a while and all of a sudden this dropped without any notice (which seems to be the new trend…

Pusha T – My Name Is My Name – The STiXXclusive Review

Posted on October 12, 2013

Pusha T aka the other half of Clipse aka the one who didn’t go to jail or find Jesus aka the one who was supposed to drop an album two years or so ago, but never did. Yes, that Pusha T. He gave Hip Hop some of its best years with his brother, providing drug raps and portraits of the street life of Virginia. As a soloist, there was much skepticism as to if he could hold his own without his brother, but Kanye West saw what he could be and took him under his good wing (you see what I did). After dropping Fear of God, and adding in a couple of solid features that sparked him up, there was a lot of…

2 Chainz – Based On A T.R.U Story 2 – The STiXXclusive Review

Posted on September 16, 2013

2 Chainz. 2 Albums. It’s simple math, so there’s nothing hard to decipher. When people ask me if I really like 2 Chainz, you have to understand where the ‘likeliness’ comes from, and in his case, it’s strictly entertainment. I will never actually take him serious as a lyrical rapper, but then again there needs to be sustainable balance when it comes to Hip Hop (or Rap; whichever category you’d throw 2 Chainz in). A fellow writer/tweeter, Sean, had a great article about the Misconception of Hip Hop, and the fact that there needs to be a necessary balance of conscious and entertainment. The problem is that the entertainment is what the majority of the mainstream listens to and thus generalizes Hip Hop as…

Owl Pharaoh – Travi$ Scott

Posted on May 21, 2013

It took him forever to finally release it, but he certainly has done so – finally. This guy is still a bit of a mystery because he doesn’t have a lot of work (at least not a lot that I’ve heard) to judge him by, but it’s clear that Kanye West saw something in him to sign him to the G.O.O.D Music team (as well as still being signed to Grand Hustle). I started listening to it, and the beats are thunderous while being trap inspired, but there are an assortment of styles you can vibe to (as well as some unlikely features from Toro Y Moi & James Fauntleroy). His style at times is very reminiscent of Kid CuDI (the irony that CuDi…

G.O.O.D Music – Cruel Summer – The STiXXclusive Review

Posted on September 18, 2012

This album is (was) one of the most anticipated albums of the year thus far. When Kanye made the announcement last year that this album was going to come out in the Spring, of course everyone was going to lose their collective minds. We waited, we got singles, but no album. The wait got so long that many people gave up on waiting for it and simply moved on, which is fair, because when you have singles floating around with videos as well but no album out, yes it keeps the anticipation high, but…can we have an album, sir? That’s all I ask. Feed the people with some good music (shut up, it was clever). When it finally became closer to the day and…

‘I Don’t Like’ (Original & Remixes)

Posted on May 2, 2012

Alright, so for the people who don’t know about ‘Don’t Like,’ this artist that goes by the name of Cheif Keef (don’t ask), he sparked some buzz over this song Let me just say this; the song is TERRIBLE! The beat & the hook are probably the only things that got me through the entire song. Lyrics? Okay, listen, this is a generation that doesn’t really care much about lyrics these days, just a hot beat and a catchy hook (exactly my description of this song). So, from here, he got a lot of buzz and whatnot, and THEN…Kanye West (a fellow Chicagoan) came around and added his style on it, which the original producer did not like (pun intended). Pusha T & Big…

(New Music) MERCY – Kanye West x Pusha T x Big Sean x 2 Chainz

Posted on April 5, 2012

G.O.O.D Friday has come back with full force. With the much anticipated G.O.O.D Music compilation album coming out sooner than we think, the first single has surfaced. Fuelled with a Reggae sample, a basic snare and a thunderous bass; not only is this a hot song, but it’s already one of the hottest songs of the year. 2 Chainz. 2. CHAINZ! Honestly, don’t even take my word for it. Listen to the song, and simply enjoy.
