Galaxy Nexus Review

FIRST THING’S FIRST!

Don’t expect me to use a whole bunch of tech-savvy terms in this review, because I am NOT an expert on phones, I just use them. I don’t break it down to the specifications, or the nuts and bolts of how the thing works. I’ll just explain this in the perspective of the average user who is not shoving their faces in Smartphone blogs and/or reader’s manuals. SO, without further adieu,

THIS PHONE! How it came to be (me owning it, not the actual creation) took a lot of thought, questions being put out into the universe, thorough (ehh) research, and ULTIMATELY, a phone company to choose. Choosing a phone is one of the most difficult decisions you make because it’s a commitment of at LEAST 3 years, and no matter what, you have to live with it. I did that with Blackberry. I supported the Canadian movement from 2009-2011, but because of the constant issues with RIM and the struggling network, to the SLOW-AS-MOLASSES-BROWSER (was that emphasized enough?), and the ever infamous ‘Battery Pull,’ I couldn’t do it anymore. I had to cut ties, I had to break up and look for a new commitment, because I was about to strangle a bitch (and by bitch, I mean phone, don’t get any ideas).

Now, I saw a couple of commercials for the Nexus, and how it was powered by Google, and the ONE THING THAT CAUGHT ME (and everyone will testify to this) is the fact that you can UNLOCK….THE PHONE….with your FACE! That was crazy, not even the iPhone has that, but OF COURSE, iPhone users will just say “They’ll be an app for that soon, so?” Sorry, I didn’t hear you through my ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZs. MISS ME WITH ALL OF THAT! My only beef with iPhone is that it just…doesn’t….feel…right. Especially the 4s. My mom has one, I’ve fooled with it, but it’s so basic and plain. I don’t care for the apps, I really don’t. And Siri? Why do I wanna ask some chick questions all day? I’d rather ask Google and NOT have to hear a voice back. Somewhere right now, an iPhone user is saying “BUT YOU CAN DO THAT ON AN iPHONE TOO! WTF?!” I’m not talking about you people right now, so SHH!

The Nexus is curvy, it has one BIG ASS SCREEN, and with the new Android 4.0 OS (okay, BASIC smartphone terminology) with the Ice Cream Sandwich (don’t ask me why it’s called that, just go with it) technology, it’s probably the fastest phone I’ve ever laid hands upon. You can do A LOT with this phone. I can be on the phone, download music, text, tweet, and still switch through other running applications. Of COURSE that’s going to kill the battery, but if you have the right apps (Juice Defender Ultimate. Shoutout to Heidi for the referral), then that’s not an issue.

Now…On Christmas Day, Smartphones are always a big topic of conversation. It was usually Blackberry vs iPhone, but since I just had to be the outcast and get a phone that’s neither of the 2 evils, my uncle essentially said that I might as well have got an iPhone because it’s so similar. WRONG! Okay…maybe not wrong entirely. Yes it is similar because of the touchscreen & user-friendly operating systems, but I just feel that the Nexus flows smoother because everything is so integrated, and you don’t have to be going from page to page to page to get to settings, or if you want to get rid of an app right off your phone, you don’t have to delete it by plugging it in to your computer (unless there’s a way that I don’t know about, but like I said, don’t label me an expert). Android is fast. As hell. And I love this phone. I’m glad that I left the struggle life, even though 95% of Blackberry users won’t leave simply because of BBM, WHICH I UNDERSTAND, but…there’s much more to life than a messenger service. It all depends on the type of phone user that you are, but all of the security features and whatnot that a blackberry has, every phone essentially has now, especially since RIM is trying to branch out to Apple & Android (if you can’t beat em, join them and mess up their lives too….just saying).

I would recommend this phone for someone who’s looking to leave the life of Blackberry & doesn’t want to concede to the hype that is the iPhone. A friend of mine tweeted a couple of months ago that “by summer 2012, everyone will have an iPhone,” and I don’t blame her for saying that, because it’s DEFINITELY looking like that with everyone converting over. People don’t know a whole lot about Android, but based off what I’m working with, I’d recommend it in a heartbeat. There are some glitches that can be fixed, some stuff may crash, but at the same time, for what it’s worth, I wouldn’t trade it for an iPhone. At All. That’s just me, my opinion, you can have your say…or not…BUT, for now

That’s My Word & It STiXX
