Common & Drake – The Hip Hop Soap Opera

This is probably one the worst rap beefs in the history of rap music. A rapper who hadn’t (until his last one) released an album in almost a decade (give or take) facing off against a former actor, and current rapper/singer. If you didn’t know by now (Where’ve you been?) then you know that I’m referring to Common & Drake aka Aubrey Graham. This is probably the biggest battle of the lightskins since Lil Romeo & Lil Bow Wow had beef, and even THAT was more entertaining.

Now…I’m not exactly an expert on this, because I don’t care for it that much (more like, at all), but to my understanding, this spawned essentially over a woman. Serena Williams being that woman in question. Why? I don’t know, I don’t care, that’s not my field of expertise, I leave that for Nikki Oh, God Bless Her. That MIGHT be the story, but as Common said it after the first shots were fired “It’s for Drake & whoever else wants it.” Well then…alright sir. Carry on then. So, let’s just run this back a bit, because some people don’t know what’s been going on.

So first….this happened.

The initial reaction when I heard the song was, “HOLD ON! WHO’S HE TALKING ABOUT!? WHY’S HE SO CHEESED?!” Then he finally opened up about it, and that’s why the collective audience said “Ahhhhhhh ok ok. Soooo, like is Drake going to respond or what?”

Apparently (I was at work, because normal people do that), he tweeted something about going platinum “Now that’s sweet,” but he pulled a Chris Brown and deleted the tweets (LAME). So then, we had to wait a while before he heard any sort of comeback, and thennnn

This happened

One of Drake’s best verses pretty much ever. He was the highlight of the song (I absolutely HATE French Montana with a passion, but the hook is TOO CATCHY), and everything was good because he got back at common a bit, and also name dropped Kobe & subliminally fired shots at his ex-wife (Kobe was still going through the settlement process). Keep that point in mind, because it comes up later.

WITH NO HESITATION, Common went on the SAME TRACK, only took out French Montana’s verse (thank you JESUS), and that’s how we got this

Listen, the Destiny’s Child sample at the end was HILARIOUS. The man just attacked with no regard. Many Drake fans simply yawned at it and called it weak (obviously), but this was pretty entertaining, because of what the whole beef was about. And it was SO RANDOM, so why not feed into it?

So after that happened, some feelings were caught, and then French Montana had an interview and pretty much said this

Ohhhh so, A FIGHT?! WORD?! LET’S GO!! But, if we’ve learned anything from Twitter (sorry Facebook people who won’t understand) #NiggasDontWannaFight #TheyJustWannaTweet or in this case, make “diss” tracks to each other.

Since Common’s ‘Stay Schemin’ remix, nothing has been heard of from Drake. We don’t know if they’ll actually fight, because who knows what will happen? We don’t, but *STiXX Shrug* we can only wait and see.

SO…recent news came across the timelines & blogs that Drake apologized to Kobe’s ex-wife that cleaned him out of $75 Million & got 3 big ass mansions…………I’ll let you think about that for a second

*insert Jeopardy theme here*

SEVENTY….FIVE…MEEEELLLLLIIIOOONNNNN DOLLARS…….THREEEEEE MAANNNNSIIOONNNNSSSSS……………………..and this light, bright & two shades from white negrolite apologized because, “that wasn’t supposed to be the intent of the line.”

Now…my friends *cups hands together*, did TUPAC SHAKUR APOLOGIZE TO FAITH EVANS WHEN HE SAID TO BIGGIE THAT HE FUCKED HIS BITCH?! Oh no? I didn’t think so.

Drake lost. Period. If you can’t say it on a track and stand behind your words, PLEASE, for the love & the integrity of hip hop, stop rapping, IMMEDIATELY!! Or just stick to singing. Either or will suffice.

But, at the end of all of this, it’s a stupid beef, comical, but stupid, and what we take from this?

*insert awkward pause*

DON’T BEEF OVER BITCHES!

That’s all I’ve got to say, but ya, Common & Drake? You guys just need to hug it out, or do what this picture does

That’s My Word & It STiXX
