Juicy J Concert – The STiXXclusive Review

Alright, so it’s been almost a week since the show, my voice is still gone (blame DCAL & The Superbowl for that as well), my jacket still smells like weed on the inside because of my clothes that night, but it’s only fitting that I get into this.

How this all came about in the first place, I was approached by my good friend Nikki Oh, asking me my plans for the Friday night, I said I had none, and then she asked me if I wanted to go. Now, I will admit, I was a big 3-6 Mafia fan back then, but when Juicy J went solo, I didn’t take in much of him. I did listen to Blue Dream & Lean when it came out, so it’s not like I was a stranger to his music. I had no idea he signed with Taylor Gang, I didn’t even know that Wiz Khalifa could sign people, but alright then, that’s cool. So after much contemplating, I said sure, why not? I could be a professional photographer for a night with free admission.

I thought of rolling solo, but, I usually go with either another concert goer (I shall refrain from using her name, because I know for a fact I will mess it up, so I’ll just say S), but then the other person that came up was my good friend, Devon, who I met at a Kendrick Lamar concert last year, and before that, just followed each other on twitter. Her hip hop knowledge is great and we can easily exchange iPods and we’d have similar tastes, so I felt the need to ask her.

Devon

Fast forward to the night of the show. Got there (The Opera House) early, got through as “Nikki Oh +1” (I’ve never been apart of a “plus 1,” so I felt nice about that, I won’t lie), and then people were still filing in, so we proceeded to find a spot where I would be taking pictures for the night.

Ah, the people

So, after a lot of trap music being played, more people assembling in, and as the spliffs and blunts were being fired up, our gracious host, Kamakacci Juice (no, his first name is not Kamakacci, it’s his clothing brand), started the show. There would be a bountiful amount of  opening acts for Juicy J, so it was going to take a while for us to get to that point, because that same night, he was at a Meet & Greet in another part of the city.

WTF is Juice? Oh...him

There’s a bunch of rappers who’s names I forgot, but I’ll give them their credit where credit is due. First up was a guy who was stepping in for P-Dollaz, NMG, and he was good, had some help along the way, but nonetheless he brough energy, and the crowd seemed to feel his flow, which is a good thing, because Toronto is not an easy city to impress. If you suck, they’ll let you know about it, if not verbally, then by body language.

NMG

Next up was a man from Halifax, I really didn’t hear his name. Him & his people were also wearing “Free P-Dollaz” shirts or at least saying it, but they were hype. They got the crowd rocking on a good note with hype lyrics and speaker knocking beats. You could get the feel that it was going to be a good night, because they got the crowd hyped with their energy.

Alright, so after that performance, was a brief intermission (as always in between acts), so that gave me opportunities to take some crowd photos

Alright, so moving along to the next performance, came this dude from Halifax. Crazy hype. He did his thing for real, and the crowd responded justly. Joined in by two other rappers, they pretty much were the highlight of the night thus far. I will admit, that Toronto rappers seem to have progressively got better over time, and it’s starting to show. It’s only a matter of time before they start appearing on a global scale.

Next up: Luu Breeze. Now, he’s been around for a while, recently releasing a mixtape Hollalaluie, and he was on The Game’s R.E.D Album last year, so he’s been doing his thing as well. He came to the stage in….an interesting attire, but I’m not there to judge a man who’s wearing boots with a one inch heel with jeans and a crew neck white tee t hat said “Free P Dollaz,” but who really noticed though? Anyways, he came on stage and entertained with a couple of tracks. He’s a dope performer, never seen him before, so it was cool, but some girl caught a seizure during his performance. At the time, I thought she was just drunk as hell, but ya, that was no laughing matter afterwards. Hope she was okay.

Another Intermission, girls were fighting, whatever. Groupie hoes ruled the night (foreshadowing), so that wasn’t anything surprising, but *in instigating voice* I SEENT DA WHOLE THANG, SHAWTAY OH LAWD IT WAS CRAZZZY SHAWTAY!

One of the main artists that was opening up for Juicy J was The 6th Letter. I heard about him, from Chii (who also put me on to SGP), and he’s a Toronto native, young kid (I think 17, I could be wrong), but I took in his music, and he has that kind of style mimicing Curren$y, so at first I wasn’t really feeling him, but he also had to other tracks that weren’t just weed related, so I was feeling those. You could say that I’m a bit conflicted when it comes to him, but he definitely rocked the show with his chilling vibe alongside fellow local rapper Raheem. Young kids are on the rise this year, and I’me excited for them and what they will bring this year and years to come.

Raheem

Next up was a man named C-Flowz that has been a name circulating around the city. I’ve never heard of him until that night, but ya, I didn’t like his set very much. Had good beats, but him as a rapper, below average. As a performer, pretty good. He has energy, and that’s about it, but he’s pretty pedestrian as a rapper, but much to improve.

C-Flowz

Okay, so Luu Breeze came back out to perform some more tracks, and many people were getting restless, because we just wanted Juicy J to come out, like holy shit. It was dragging on (like this review), and we just wanted to get to the point. Following Luu Breeze was some….random guy, with a group of his boys on stage. I thought something was gonna go down, but I was like whatever, kept taking my pictures. I don’t know why Luu Breeze was looking like Lawrence of Arabia though.

As the crowd patiently awaits

Juicy J was in the building a good 30 minutes before he came out, but the stage had to be cleared in order for him to get on. People were loafting on leaving the stage, and thus were holding up the show. The MC proceeded to say “on the count of 3, tell these niggas to get the fuck off the stage,” and what did the crowd (plus myself) do? We proceeded to shout and berate them, telling them to indeed get “the fuck” off the stage, because SOME PEOPLE (not me & Devon) paid good money to see a show, not some local talent. Just saying. So…with security & us angry people while more fights were happening,

THEY FIGHTIN'

FINALLY! The man came out. Went straight into A Zip & A Double Cup and Who Da Neighbours getting the people hype

At long last

Juicy J, was a member of 3-6 Mafia, in case you missed that earlier, or if you just didn’t know, period. They had hits on hits on hits back in the 90s & early 2000s, and he performed Slob On My Knob, Sippin On Some Sizzurp, Stay Fly, and Poppin My Collar, all for nostalgic reasons.

Juicy J was high, and he didn’t mind telling everyone that he smoked a lot of weed, and took a bunch of drugs with homeboy The Weeknd (who was in the building, but I didn’t see him), plus he was drinking Gin straight from the bottle during the performance. How trippy of him

Gin to the neck

He proceeded to perform songs off of his mixtapes. He wasn’t on stage for that long, I would say for about 20-30 minutes at least. He kept the crowd rocking tho, so it really whizzed by because of the entertainment level. I was no match for the groupies, as I slowly got pushed further and further from the stage…and my date.

And just when the weed smokers and groupies couldn’t get anymore ratchet, Juicy J invited Toronto’s prettiest females to join him on the stage and participate in some….naughty time. Okay, not like the girls at Body English for Tyga, but…still ratchet. No stripping was involved, but twerking was.

How convenient (or ironic) was it that they were dancing to “She dancin like she fuckin?” I would said very. Sadly, after this ratchet affair, my camera battery decided to die, but it’s all good, because the concert ended like 10 minutes after. He performed some more songs, which included an encore of Zip & A Double Cup.

Let me tell you how bad my throat burned because of the amount of weed smoke I inhaled (by breathing, not by actually smoking directly from a spliff). It was crazy. I would say overall that the concert was okay. The long delay, and the crowd pretty much brought the rating down. It was my first concert since the Watch The Throne tour, so of course expectations are going to be low for any other concert I go to, but then again, that isn’t necessarily fair, because there are so many different artists, with different fan bases.

I still have no voice, well I do, but it’s hoarse. This was the start of the crisis, and it wasn’t worth it. Thank God it was for free. Thank you Nikki Oh. But I did enjoy my time with Devon, it was a lot of jokes, and of course we’ll attend more in the future. This was my first concert review, I know it was long, but that’s how I am, I pay a lot of attention to detail. So, hope you enjoyed it, because I didn’t enjoy writing this lol.

That’s My Word & It STiXX
