I was stuck between who I should post for today’s T.A.O.D. The Pharcyde, De La Soul, or Digable Planets. So, through the power of social networking, I put it to a vote. De la Soul got the most votes, so I said, why not? 3 Feet High & Rising is a funky, cool, and an overall great album to have anyways, so why not share? It’s cool to know that people’s Hip Hop knowledge is stretched beyond gangster rap and mainstream bullshit. I like that. I admire people with musical diversity. A lot of the albums I’ve posted as T.A.O.Ds have been debut albums, and this is another. I think we’ve strayed too far away from rappers who have come out with solid first albums that have remained memorable and have had an everlasting effect on Hip Hop. I miss those days, as I’m sure others do as well. De la Soul came into hip hop with a style that had not been seen since the Sugar Hill Gang. They’re a fun bunch, but at the same time were witty with their lyrics. This is a prime example of how they captured a generation and influenced others. Enjoy
