Throwback Album of the Day – Aijuswanaseing – Musiq Soulchild

Okay, so common pattern was to have an artist from the Throwback Video post featured on the Throwback Album post (that’s not saying that The Roots won’t get an appearance, I’m just saying). They really don’t make R&B the same anymore. More synthesizers, more whining, more echoes, more effects laid down on vocal tracks, and not enough SINGING! I was into R&B during the late 90s and early 2000s. Musiq Soulchild was one of the artists that I liked listening to the most, and his first album really lets you know why. Soul (which is in his name), is what is missed now (even though it’s lingering around, and BJ The Chicago Kid is pretty much the only person that comes to mind when I say that), and Musiq instilled that in his songs. He sang about the realness (I’m aware that it’s not a word), not necessarily the struggle, or whining about “baby mama drama,” but you could hear the passion in his lyrics. For example, ‘Love’ is one of the greatest R&B songs I’ve ever heard. It STILL gives me goosebumps. It’s so real, and that’s all I want back in today’s R&B; bring back the realness, but for now, take a blast from the not-so-distant-past, and enjoy this album.
