Alright, so pretty much the first most hyped up movie of the year comes out and people are talking about it, and talking about it: “omg you have to see it. “ “Yo this movie is CRAZY!” “Dog, you have to see this. Too sick” etcetera, etcetera, right? From when I saw the trailer, I was like, ya; I have to see this movie. 100%, it’s going down. Now…after watching this movie…let me just say….EVERYTHING THAT WAS SAID ABOUT THIS MOVIE! IT’S TRUE!

Now listen, this is going to be a movie that will be hit or miss with people, but let me just say that, yes I’m a critic of some sort (not professionally or anything, just as a hobby), but sometimes you have to just go watch a movie for the sake of being entertained, and not have to worry about “oh the storyline was terrible” or “this shit isn’t funny at all. It’s all over the place.” It’s like how some people feel about Transformers: they don’t know anything about the background stories of the individual characters, nor do they care because they just want to be entertained. Everyone is a different movie viewer. Today I had to just go into that movie with no anticipations, and just ignore the hype around it and just enjoy it, and I came out of that movie entertained and more than satisfied.
I was a high school loser for the first 2 years, let me just get that out-of-the-way. I didn’t get invited to parties, didn’t really hang out with people. People knew who I was, but I wasn’t exactly popular, but mainly because I was an outsider, which I’ve basically put myself in the role of for a while, but I’ve always thrived. Low self-esteem, little confidence, and being treated like a punk are the common attributes of a loner in high school. The story of the three kids that just wanted to gain some popularity pretty much but me in their shoes a bit, but there’s absolutely no way in the history of my LIFE would I have the testicular glands to pull something like this off.

We all have that one friend that’s just loud and brash. Basically, the planner of all things, right? That friend in this movie was Costa. He’s the main planner of this event for his friend Thomas. JB (he’s the nerd of the crew) tags along as well, but the fact remains that, Costa is the mastermind behind it. There’s a reason why parents say “no people in the house” when they leave for a period of time. Because when left in the wrong hands, things like this can happen. In Thomas’s defence, he wanted something small, but Costa wanted to push forward and have the biggest party of all time.
That’s where I stop spoiling the movie, because I’m not about that, you know this. HOLY CRAP! THIS MOVIE! It’s like anything and everything a high school kid would dream of throwing in their lifetime (minus a few things that resulted in utter chaos) and watching that movie, you can almost just imagine yourself there living through the moments of the movie.
The way that it was shot, you would think that it was some type of documentary, but not an actual movie. I applaud the director for his use of multiple styles of recordings: Mini cameras (like the Flip cam that I own), Camera phones, and an HD camera to capture most of it. It put into perspective of today’s world that we live in: we see commercials and movies made on cameras that are primarily used for taking pictures, so why not throw in a bit of other uses or a variety of products? It was really smart how they brought upon this.
If I had to compare this movie to something of similar shooting style, I would say that this is the modern-day Blair Witch Project (the irony that ‘Project’ is in the name), because of the hype around it, the reception, and of course the success. There’s no doubt in my mind that this movie will be really successful in time. I would see this movie again (if someone paid for me) because it’s a fast movie, and it was really different from a lot of movies I’ve watched in the past while.

So, shout out to Nathaniel for telling me this, because I wouldn’t have mentioned it if he told me; this movie was somewhat based on a true story (but of course Hollywood emphasized to the 10th power) that happened to a group of kids in Australia, (well one in particular – Corey Delaney – click the name for the article) that had a similar experience, and through news reports and some found footage, pretty much this movie was born, but at the same time, the producer of this movie was the director of the infamous Hangover, so you kind of had to expect that this was going to be a whole leap of nonsense.

This movie, I would recommend to anyone who’s just looking to have a good time with a bunch of friends for a night to reflect and ponder to ‘could have been in high school.’ It’s really entertaining to see how the white suburban youth get down with their hip hop influenced selves with their gang sign throwing, crotch grabbing and BET slang saying. I loved the movie, you’ll love it too if you just go in with no expectations. But, for now, this is my opinion, this is my review
That’s My Word & It STiXX

Saw the movie last night and I was laughing my ass off through the whole thing, glad you enjoyed it too. Nice review (minus some spelling errors), I especially like the last paragraph lol.
