On The Lookout – Shaolin Park

Hip hop groups aren’t really a common thing anymore so it seems. The days of A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, The Pharcyde, Outkast, Goodie Mob, Digable Planets, and whoever else I may have not mentioned, have seemingly vanished from the industry. This group here, that I was put on to (by, who else? Mars) is an example of the old school being revived by the newest generation, and given the fact that the younger kids are putting out such quality music that a lot of people are not hip to, it just goes to show you the type of industry that we’ve developed to as I’ve stated before.

This group makes some chillin’ ass music. This must be the modern-day ‘Hippie Renaissance,’ because a lot of the lyrical content from rappers that have come out in the last couple of years has been about the heavily smoked marijuana substance. Wiz, Curren$y, Smoke DZA to name a few, but it seems like that’s the movement. It’s only annoying if there’s no real appeal to it. It gets annoying at time, but as long as it’s not the ONLY subject that you talk about, then I don’t have an issue with that. Shaolin Park fits into that category of being able to switch it up. There are 3 members, and they pretty much bring out their own styles to the table, even though at times, most of them sound like the same person, but with time & progression, they’ll develop & get better, with hopes that they remain consistent with their good music, because it’s mad chill, so I support them fully. They have a couple of mixtapes as a group, and a couple of them have individual projects coming out, so check them out, and of course, most importantly, Enjoy.
