The Expendables 2 – The STiXXclusive Review

Put the biggest action movie stars in the history of Hollywood together, and throw in some other key actors, give them some guns, some knives, vintage vehicles and a bunch of bad guys. What do you get? A good old fashioned ‘Shoot-Em-Up’ action movie filled with adrenaline pumping action from start to finish and all of the cheesy one-liners you can get.

The Terminator, Rambo, The Transporter & Die Hard were great action series’ that had great leading male roles that expressed what it is to be the all-around male. Brute strength, a killer instinct, and raw testosterone that would make the skinny guys want to bulk up and be like them (I’m not speaking for myself though). This movie was exactly what it was supposed to be – an action movie with no real need for a complex plot. The plot was simple enough. Find something, kill some people during the course, and return what needed to be found to its proper owner. Throw in a maniacal bad guy (Jean Claude Van Dame) and there you have it; your action movie.

The Expendables is like ‘The Losers’ but not exactly based on a comic book. I didn’t watch the first one, but I was told that it wouldn’t have mattered if I did (thanks, Xavier). It was simple enough to follow, and you’d have to be one narrow-minded and sad individual to not just go out and enjoy a movie simply for the action. I won’t lie, at first, I was like…for…what? But when I think about it, I always refer back to what my mother says about these movies: ‘Sometimes you just want to go and watch shit blow up’, and it’s true, you just want stuff to blow up, people to kill people, and pretty much live vicariously through violent movies to blow off steam or perhaps cheer yourself up, which is what I needed at that particular time.

Why would I recommend this movie to everyone? BECAUSE IT’S FUN! Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Sylvester Stallone, Terry Crews, Jason Statham, Jet Li, and Randy Couture? COME ON! Wait…CHUCK NORRIS TOO?! COME ON! What’s not to love? I had to just give in and watch it, but it should have never of been up for a debate rather to see it or not; that’s my own fault, but at least I saw it and got exactly what I wanted out of it…entertainment. So if you like to be entertained, go and watch it. Trust me, you’ll enjoy yourself. That’s all I have to say for this movie. Pretty straight forward. So, for now
