This mixtape was forwarded to me from Devon, yet again. She’s always sending out some good music (Jigz for example), and yet again she comes through with another artist that’s fresh and brings a great vibe to his music. The first thing that I noticed before I started listening to the mixtape, was the production list. When you have names like Tae Beast, who is an emerging producer out of the TDE camp; Just Blaze, who is a producing legend; and DJ Premier (I don’t have to say much about that), then you would think that he’d come correct with the rhymes, because not everyone can handle their beats.

            Courtney Anthony brings confidence with his lyrics and has a n aggressive delivery that not only makes your head bop, but he also speaks from the heart, and that’s what makes it more captivating to wanting the listener to want to hear more. Passionate artists are easy to point out because it’s music that you can feel, more than simply listening to it for the sake of listening to it. A great example of Courtney’s personality and thought process comes into fruition on Story, backed by the great jazz ensemble BADBADNOTGOOD, as they orchestrate their rendition of Kanye West’s ‘Flashing Lights’. It’s telling of Courtney’s creative process, and straight up, the project overall is really good (although, the singing in the background on certain songs didn’t help the cause). Definitely give this mixtape a spin, and look forward to more music that may come from this MC in the future. Enjoy.
