Fabolous x DJ Clue – Friday Night Freestyles

I don’t know how long I’ve been listening to Fabolous, but it’s definitely been over 10 years. Have I been the most consistent? Absolutely not, but from Street Dreams to the There Is No Competition mixtape series, Fabolous has had his share of hits and examples of lyricism that has been a continuing example of why New York rap was for a long time, the standard of what an MC was supposed to be. Now, as of recent, depending on who you speak to, he either completely fell off, or aged like fine wine, musically (I’ll go with the former). Over the past few weeks, Fabolous dedicated himself to dropping freestyles every Friday over classic Hip Hop beats. There have been some truly great ones, and now all of them have been compiled into a mixtape with legendary collaborator, DJ Clue. For nostalgia’s sake, it’s just perfect, but for Fab listeners who came on the latter half of his career (post-prime), this is a project that will make you go back and listen to what he had to offer when he first came into the game. You can thank me later (or not, I don’t care), but listen now.
