We need them, they do have beneficial effects on the people, but honestly, fuck it, and I don’t apologize for the vulgar language in the title (I really couldn’t think of anything else). I was inspired by my friend Ashley’s rant about Think Like A Man (entitled ‘Fuck Steve Harvey’), and the whole concept around it. It’s a great read, but getting back to my topic at hand, these people…the government.
It’s annoying to know that we pay taxes, we have to go through so many hula hoops, vote so frequently (unlike the United States, Canada doesn’t vote every 4 years for their leader), and yet we still have to deal with ITS bullshit, rather than it deal with ours. Now, I’m not in the area of politics, I’m not politically active within my community and I don’t watch a lot of it on TV because what’s the point when all that’s discussed is what else the government is doing to make our lives more of a living hell.
I say that because, people who work hard every week just to come up broke yet again, not only have to deal with bills from other sources, but here comes the government with its hand out like Oliver Twist asking, “Please sir, I want some more,” and there we are like MORE?! What more do you want? It’s annoying as hell, and a lot of people aren’t up to deal with that misery. Now, Canada (I believe) pays the most taxes IN-THE-WORLD! That may seem crazy, but when you consider what that includes: Free healthcare. That’s the one and only thing that is TRULY significant, although they pay for other things as well. I’m appreciative of that, because without it, God knows how many people would be even more sick and disabled because they probably wouldn’t have the sufficient funds to pay for their treatments. That’s fantastic, but that doesn’t take away the fact that as the cost of living goes up, minimum wage goes up, gas prices go up, TUITION FEES GO UP, and of course….taxes go up. That could get stressful for some people, because, let’s be real, who wants to constantly pay MORE, to get back less, and then you’re caught in a vicious cycle of JUST making enough to get by? That isn’t a life to live.
“We sell, crack to our own out the back of our homes
We smell the musk at the dusk in the crack of the dawn
We go through “Epidodes II,” like “Attack of the Clones”
Work ’til we break our back and you hear the crack of the bone
To get by..” – Talib Kweli – ‘Get By’
I spoke about this in my Two Weeks Notice vent, but I must reiterate my high disdain for the Government, by using the Ontario Student Assistance Program (Student Loan service, for those who don’t know). It’s great that we can get a student loan to help us pay for our books that cost hundreds of dollars, tuition in the thousands, and if we go away from home (which I did), it’s essentially money to LIVE if you don’t work where you go to school. Now, you’re looking (depending on your program) from $20,000 – over $50, 000 for the total of your entire program (depending on college or university, and other factors) that you have to pay back. They give you a period of time that’s over 5 years, and it seems realistic, but here’s the problem: how many people are really going to get THAT JOB that they went to school for to pay that off? Hmm, the government didn’t teach the students how to prepare for this, it didn’t tell us that interest would build up and make it pretty damn difficult for us to give that money back, so what does it do? The interest that collects, the money that we’re slaving away at a bullshit full-time job (or 2 or 3) to pay off, is used for what? The salaries of the people in charge? Ya..it’s ridiculous.
I’m not a conspiracy theorist, I leave that to the other people who I talk to. Life isn’t one that not any one person can predict and can for sure tell you what’s going on. There are people who dedicate themselves to bringing the truth out, but what IS the truth? How can I even be sure that what you’re telling me isn’t a bunch of fabricated junk that you’ve just consumed your life around? The fact that people look at The Illuminati and other secret societies that feel that control the world and everything that happens, to me, it’s a bit of a 30/70 split. I don’t feel as though the Illuminati exists, and that people are really too caught up in their own works, and those are the people who look at me and say that my mind isn’t open and that I’m just a product of the “systematic approach.” Get a life. Honestly. Spare me your theories and anecdotes that you’ve written up by watching a bunch of YouTube videos and all of a sudden you’re an expert (remember Kony 2012? Right), when really you’re doing the most to try to get people to live in this bundle of theories and conjectures while you do what? Go to your job, work your hours,a nd your money then goes where? The government. So, you can be a freedom fighter all you want, I have stuff to do.
Now, with that saying, do I believe that the police are a bunch of racist pricks at times and label a good majority of black people all the same? Yes. Do I think that the amount of Blacks in prison for bullshit crimes versus the amount of non-blacks that are roaming around freely on our streets is insane? Yes. Casey Anthony? George Zimmerman? And don’t look at me and say O.J Simpson, because you know what? I wasn’t even at the age to really comprehend or care for it, so we’ll leave that to the older generations. There is somewhat a conspiracy as to how the world works and modern-day institutionalization. This is why I love Hip Hop, because it really does bring out individuals to really express their views on the government and share their first hand experiences with authority.
Examples (there’s a lot to choose from, so I’ll just give some):
“The state won’t oversee
They make the term severe, a conspiracy
That’s what I call it, it’s full of shit
A toilet can help quick, the government help?
No, just put us on death row
Just give us some more guns, then give us some more coke
Then give us another chair, then give us some more rope
Then hang it like right there, yeah
It’s just as far on, but 90 percent unfair
Care? No” – Kendrick Lamar (Uncle Bobby & Jason Keaton)
“Society’s secrets, and lies they keep from us
Trying to keep us in a box
So we can remain rats in a maze, trapped in amazement
Ask one question, get clapped to the pavement” – Chuuwee (Politics As Usual)
“Before you ask me to get a job today, can I at least get a raise on a minimum wage?
And I know the government administered AIDS,
So I guess we just pray like the minister say,
Allah o Akbar and throw em some hot cars,
Things we see on the screen are not ours,
But these niggas from the hood so these dreams not far,
Where im from, the dope boys is the rock stars,
But they can’t cop cars without seein’ cop cars,
I guess they want us all behind bars.
I know it.” – Kanye West (Heard ‘Em Say)
“See the shapes these little girls is gettin’?
Somethin’ say the steroids in the chicken is the cause of the thickening in the young women
Livid, see some shorties playin’ Cops & Robbers, livin’
Bittersweet thoughts is what I had for them
I can picture colder feelin’ Police chasin’ after them
Catchin’ up to, friskin’ and askin’ them
Where the packs at? Who yo’ cheif is? Where the straps at?
Am I thinking too hard? Or perhaps that’s reality
In a project mentality, but through it all
I hope we learn more than how to be whores and how to move a ball”
– Lupe Fiasco (Steady Mobbin)
Basically, the main point I’m trying to put out here is that, the government, in all countries; I get that the purpose of having one is to bring order to a nation and have a sense of control to make things run smoothly. No one is perfect, no government is perfect, and I don’t expect them to be. I say ‘FUCK THE GOVERNMENT’ because of the unnecessary stuff that they put people through to SUSTAIN that order. It seems like they have to meet some sort of quota of people in the struggle versus the people who are well off, and it shouldn’t be that way. Equality for all mankind, right? WRONG! Justice for all, right? WRONG! (Read my other vent: Justice for Injustice)
The system is bullshit, the Government is bullshit. They do what they have to do to provide for the people, but if you’re in charge of a MASS amount of people, you’d think to do more to help rather than make them suffer as a whole. I’m speaking for the people who are in that struggle, because I’ve been in the struggle, well actually, IN the struggle. Writing to your local government representative is a start for change because it shows what you want done, but when it constantly gets ignored, you say to yourself, what is this?
Democracy, in Ancient Greek, is defined as “the power of the people,” and that’s true. We, the people, determine who gets to represent us at all levels of government: Local, Regional, National (or in Canada’s case: Municipal, Provincial, Federal). We are the people who decide suit the needs of this country, and when those people mess it up, who’s to blame? Of course the PEOPLE are to blame to electing the representatives to REPRESENT US PROPERLY, but it all falls on the Reps, because we don’t have that kind of power to change things; they do. And when they just continue to not meet approval, what more can you say than just
