I woke up this morning and I got an email that this video had been sent to me. I honestly don’t know how people get my email anymore, but it’s love that people still send me stuff for me to listen, watch, review, etc. The point is that I watched this video today at work, and I couldn’t wait to post this although I’d been seeing it fly over my timeline. From the description, Eternia had taken a lengthy hiatus from music to come back and drop this gem of a song, in which she raps over the J.Cole produced/Kendrick Lamar rapped HiiiPoWer, and it’s fitting that it’s more so a ‘tribute’ than just another rapper spitting over an industry beat. What I got from Eternia was a hard voice that showed strength from a physique that you wouldn’t have thought would have carried such broad strokes. pHoenix as talented as she is provided the vocals to lift the emotions on another notch, and it was done well. I believe this was shot in Kensington Market (big up Toronto) and the one take approach reminded me a bit of J.Cole’s ‘Simba‘ (a lot of people have used that particular style), but the track is enjoyable, and it gives me hope yet again for female emcees. Glad that she’s making music again; can’t wait to see what else she comes out with.
