There’s a lot to be said about Drake, and whether you like his music or not, his developing roster for OVO Sound is generating a buzz that may be a force to come in 2015. Only time will tell if he’ll put out an album that I’ll actually like for more than 2 weeks, but that’s neither here nor there, it’s about the ones on his team. Having just posted PartyNextDoor’s album recently, I took to listening to Majid Jordan’s EP, and I hadn’t really heard anything from them (it’s a duo if you didn’t know) outside of vocals on Just Hold On, so there was no expectations on my end to be had, but let me tell you; when Forever started playing, it hit in a way that emulated that authentic House music vibe that I grew up listening to – that was a great sign off the bat, and it continued right through the EP (I wish it was a full length album). It reminds me of the first time I heard House of Balloons in terms of a refreshing vibe that was new and impactful. Whether or not it’ll hold up for the long haul in terms of growing a fan base, is still undecided, but I have no doubts that they’ll get his share of the spoils of fortune that seem to be just focusing on PND at the moment. They (I don’t know which one does the singing primarily) can actually sing, and it brings in another demographic that vibes with the OVO Sound who aren’t on the hood side that PND represents. Basically it’s a reflection of Drake’s image, as he’s mixed, so he mixes it up musically, and it’s evident with the talent he’s chosen – smart man.
This EP is a must purchase. I’m hovering over the tab to buy it right now as I type this (I have 3 arms, you didn’t know?) It’s definitely one for the summer, although our weather isn’t a strong reflection of it, but it’s dope all the same. Enjoy.
