The best outlet for me has always been through writing, and it’s a shame that it takes something major to genuinely shift me into spewing out words of frustration, because that’s how I felt on this day November 9^th, 2016 – frustrated. I didn’t think it was going to happen. I thought it was a bad joke that a lot of people didn’t get yet, and I had faith that the sensible people of the world would wake up and actually see what was gonna happen, but here we are – Donald Trump is going to be the 45^th President of the United States.

Watching the election, it was like watching a Game 7…you didn’t know what was going to happen, but the tension was insurmountable and the drama was high as ever, but you couldn’t really think that Donald Trump was going to win the actual Presidential election with no political or military experience. Not this guy who was known for being a billionaire loudmouth, trial-and-failure businessman, and the face of The Apprentice. Not him. Not the same one who said that ISIS is the real American problem and not the same one who made sexist and racist comments all throughout his campaign. Not him. Not actually him. America wasn’t going to do it – and then they did it. Right before our very eyes, the White Men & Women in a vast majority, took the 8 years of Obama’s leadership and threw it all out because they felt like they were ignored (which they might have), they felt like they were marginalized, and they thought that ‘their country’ was failing them and moving away from their wants and needs. So instead of trying to progress (and bear in mind, Hilary wasn’t a great choice herself, but at least a ‘better’ one for what the American people’s options were), they may have just set themselves back because a group of people who are the most privileged on Earth felt like they wanted to go back to the way things were when mammy and pappy were basking in the ‘glory days.’ How, Sway?? Why, America?

I’m Canadian, and what I’m tired of hearing is that because I live in this country, I won’t be affected by anything the United States does. Keep in mind that a lot of the people who have been saying that, happen to be White people. White Canadians aren’t slick, let’s just keep it 100. Stephen Harper ran this country and he did some foul shit, and you can find the same type of people who voted for Trump right in your own neighbourhood. White Canadians need to understand that because of their pigmentation, they can still stroll along across the borders with no consequence. Meanwhile, in this Post 9/11 world we live in, and the way Police brutality is set up, being a minority in North America, yeah, you constantly are on edge because there are people who don’t look like you who could be scheming on your existence – that’s reality. That’s not make-believe, and that’s not something we can hide behind a Red & White fucking flag. That’s what (some) people don’t understand. They don’t understand that we have friends & family that live in the States where their lives have just changed. Whether they voted for the man or not, the impact that it has on their lives will certainly have an aftershock in our Canadian society that some people feel is protected by some invisible force field – kill that noise. And for the peanut gallery who feels that we won’t be affected by Trump’s presidency, here’s an article, and another one, that says you’re wrong. But of course I can’t be the one to say this, because I’m just a Black man in Canada who should be grateful of where I am, right? Because I’m not allowed to care for the people next door to us right? It’s not healthy to play the “at least it ain’t us card,” and it’s also idiotic. Period.
