At the beginning of 2012, an underground anticipated project entitled UCLA surfaced, and in a nutshell, it was a full-length mixtape that had the vocals of rapper, Blu, and everything produced by famed producer still on the rise of appreciation, Madlib. The controversy behind it was that Blu had stolen beats from Madlib and put out the mixtape without permission – that’s what makes the mixtape so much better, because of the story behind it.
The project was in typical Blu form, and it wasn’t mastered, so it sounded fresh off out of the studio with no touch-ups – it was raw, but when I was informed (shout out to Mars) that a mastered EP would be coming out, then all hopes resurrected yet again. This song, Burgundy Whip is on UCLA (among others on the EP), and I must say that it sounds great when it was cleaned up and brought out to clarity. Can’t wait to hear the rest of the EP when it comes out on the 19th (order here). Enjoy.
