Happy ‘STiXXclusive’ New Year – Vent LVII

Ehlien Rings
I remember taking this photo and thinking that it was the greatest thing since sliced bread. I still feel that way. It’s me in 1 caption, so yeah.

Stop sleeping on Big K.R.I.T, people. He’s a really good rapper who actually talks about something concrete in Hip Hop. It’s unfortunate that he’s been overlooked (Tito Lopez too), but perhaps when his new album drops this year, that’ll spark more interest. Trust me, you’re in for some good music.

The only reason why I stated that little nugget is because I’m currently listening to 4Eva N A Day and the random thoughts that flood through my brain are a good chunk of the reason why I started this blog to begin with. I honestly can’t believe that it’s been 2 years since I started it on that mild January 4th, 2012. I started it how I basically go about everything – gut instinct, and this date has a lot of meaning around t, so there’s always that (I have a method to my madness). I love writing, and I appreciate all of the people who have taken their time out to read what I write, accept my recommendations, disagree with my opinions, and take time to understand what I’m trying to say. The purpose of being a good writer is to spark conversation in a manner where it’s not robotic and generic. I’ve seen so many examples of what I don’t want to be, but that’s the same thing that the masses feed into. The objective is to always stand out and never be status quo; that’s boring – do something different.

Two years of typing away on this decaying HP Laptop (not really, but in Technology years, this thing is 100) that has been with me to Montreal, Philadelphia, and perhaps other locations in the future; opening up Microsoft Word, cracking my  knuckles, opening my eyes and ears to content and letting what God gave me the ability to do, take over. That’s a lot of concerts, movies, and music to consume for 1 person to write about. Does it get frustrating? Absolutely. I used to post stuff every day, but I had to realize that I had to pace, and other obstacles (Google, for one) would come in the way, but it’s all about what the purpose of this is. I’m not trying to make money off of this, because then the honesty and integrity of my work would be diminished a bit. You’re probably sitting there like “that’s stupid. If you’re good, then get paid” and I understand – however. This is a hobby, and I treat this with a lot of care, but I don’t care for advertising on this because it’s not my 100% dedication in life. If you know me, you know what I want, and being a full time writer isn’t it. I have the ability to write, no denying, and I do it well, but for this blog, money isn’t something that’s necessary. When money comes into play, people will write anything just to earn some views and help boost their e-street cred. That’s my reasoning, and it won’t change.

Given all of that – the next step is always what I can do to get better, but after a lengthy conversation after hours in a Diner, I reminded myself that there’s no rush to develop any drastic changes. I’ve made it this far by being who I am, and rushing to ‘keep up with The Joneses’ has never been a priority, but the reviews for music & movies won’t stop, the interviews that I may have with people won’t stop, the Vents won’t stop, the new artists that come around won’t stop, and most importantly, my word won’t change. You’ve all been a factor in the reasoning why I’ve had the continued ambition to write and maintain this blog, so thank YOU for making it stick.
